Pop ups claiming that you have viruses on your computer and prompting you to purchase the antivirus software are most likely viruses themselves

Don't click on any links or adverts on websites if you are unsure of the brand or what they do. You need to stay away from installing browser toolbars and add-ins and small apps such as 3rd party chat applications as this can be how spyware/malware/viruses can get onto your machine. If unsure, DON’T install it

Do not open emails from untrusted sources, and don’t open emails which claim to be from the Police, your bank, or from any other source that claims you have been fined etc
